Snow and Cold

This weekend in the Wasatch mountains the snow got down to about 7,000ft, enough to put a sprinkle of the white stuff on the slopes of Snowbird, Canyons and Park City.

More of the same is supposed to happen on Friday getting down into the 30's. Here is a cam of Snowbird at Gad Valley.

How About that Corn

Fox River will be part of a four-member U.S. hosiery manufacturing group that will launch socks made with corn-based Ingeo fiber in Japan.

According to NatureWorks, Ingeo fiber—the first manmade fiber created from 100% annually renewable resources—is an innovative product that combines the best of both worlds: the performance of a synthetic fiber and the appeal of a natural material. And because it is derived entirely from natural sources, Ingeo fiber contributes to reducing our dependence on limited fossil fuel resources such as oil.

Fox River's Ingeo athletic sock is made with 90% Ingeo, 8% nylon and 2% Lycra 3D. It will retail for about $9.50 when it is introduced in U.S. sporting goods stores in March 2006.

So when your friend's say you have corn feet now you can say yep, I do.

Loveland and A-Basin are racing to see who can say they opened their gates first for the snow season.

Loveland could actually open on Friday, with A-Basin planning to open on October 21st. Ahhhhhhhh is all I got to say, while tuning my skis yet again waiting, waiting for Utah's first big dump.

Marmot Names VP, Design

Marmot Mountain, LLC. announced the appointment of Gregory Houser as Vice President of Design and Product Development, effective October 1

Houser was previously the VP and DMM of strategic planning and product development of L.L. Bean’s outerwear, technical apparel and men’s sportswear divisions, and worked with all aspects of Bean’s product development, design, sourcing and marketing. He also has prior product development management experience with Eastern Mountain Sports and Nike.

Houser began in the outdoor industry 18 years ago when he assisted his brother in opening a specialty outdoor store in Vermont. Houser stated, “Marmot was our premier brand then and it still is today. I grew up with Marmot. I am excited for the opportunity to address the Marmot global growth opportunities and to help drive its tradition of innovation into diversified outdoor products.

Marmot contunies to add to it's core line with great design and commitment to core product rather than watered down verisons that a couple of core brands have done these last few years and now have lost their brand appeal- need I say anymore.
